Acerta Pharma, operating as a Haematology/Oncology research and development hub for AstraZeneca, offers an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist Bio-informatics at our (brand new) research facility in Oss, The Netherlands. 

We have a job opportunity available for a highly skilled postdoctoral scientist specialising in cutting-edge Bioinformatics with a profound focus on cancer genomics, and preferably experience in the hemato-oncology. 

This role involves collaboration within our BioScience Discovery team and synergistic engagement with Bioinformaticians across AstraZeneca’s R&D sites in Waltham (Boston, USA) and Cambridge (UK). Your challenge
As a Senior Research Scientist Bioinformatics, you will play an important role in the discovery of novel innovative medicines for haematologic malignancies. You will be responsible to drive top-notch bioinformatic analyses and screens, based on publicly available datasets as well as the design, processing and analysis of in-house generated multi-omics and functional CRISPR-generated datasets.

In this position (as part of a broader global discovery team):
You will work with postdoctoral biologists and chemists in Oss and Waltham in sharing knowledge, provide coaching and bioinformatic support on experimental designs, data acquisition and analyses of high-throughput multi-omics datasets.
•    In relation to the pathobiology of haematological malignancies, you are the expert and adopt a leading role in the development and execution of data analysis strategies to identify tumour drivers and biomarkers of therapy response or therapy resistance as starting points.
•    You will keep up-to-date with novel developments in the field to maintain a high level of expertise with Bioinformatic and IT technologies.
•    You will develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the scientific and technological domains supported by the team and you have, or willing to develop, a good understanding of the pharmaceutical drug discovery process.
•    You will build scalable cloud-based or high performance computing solutions that work on tens-of-thousands of CPUs.


What you bring
•    PhD degree in Biology with a high-expert level in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or Bioinformatics with proven Postdoctoral experience (min 3 years) in data analyses of cancer-related multi-omics datasets.
•    Proven track record of successful implementation of bioinformatics tools for scientific data management and analysis of large datasets such as machine learning, graph modelling and Bayesian analytics or other state-of-the-art approaches (e.g. from next generation sequencing applications and gen/protein interactions works, Omics-type data) and harmonising different types of data sets for analyses. 
•    Experience in the design, development, optimisation, and scaling of informatics applications and solutions. 
•    Expertise in querying, mining and interpreting cancer variants from public resources (TCGA, CBio-Portal).
•    Expertise in differential gene expression analyses and pathway enrichment tools.
•    Strong interpersonal skills  to effectively team-up in a global organisation with a broad range of scientists across multiple disciplines.
•    Excellent communications in English (both written & spoken).

Acerta Pharma

Acerta has received approval from both the US (FDA) and the European Regulator (EMA) for its small molecule BTK inhibitor for treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). In addition, AstraZeneca and Acerta Pharma are collaborating on a large number of other innovative medicines to treat haematological malignant diseases.
