Supporting talent through the Pedro Hermkens stipend
At Pivot Park, we believe that innovation in life sciences starts with people. That’s why we actively invest in the professional development of employees working at the companies on our campus. One of the ways we do this is through the Pedro Hermkens stipend – an annual initiative that helps ambitious professionals grow their knowledge and skills.
Empowering professionals in life sciences
The Pedro Hermkens stipend offers up to €1,000 in funding for educational activities such as courses, training, or certification programs. It is open to employees of companies located at Pivot Park, providing them with the opportunity to take the next step in their professional development and career path.
The stipend honours the legacy of emeritus professor Pedro Hermkens from HAN University of Applied Sciences, who has played an important role in connecting science and education with business.
First edition: a success story
In 2024, the first stipend was awarded to Josephine Stein, scientist at Citryll. She used the funding to complete a 10-week online immunology course at Harvard University, graduating with an impressive score of 93%.
“This opportunity helped me build a strong foundation in immunology and apply it directly to my work,” Josephine says.
“It allowed me to contribute more effectively to our project strategies, and I’m confident it will support my continued growth in this field.”
Her story exemplifies how targeted support can accelerate both personal and professional progress, and ultimately strengthen the innovation ecosystem as a whole.
Strengthening our community
The Pedro Hermkens stipend reflects Pivot Park’s broader commitment to nurturing talent, stimulating development, and creating a vibrant innovation community. The second edition will be awarded during the Pivot Park summer event in June 2025.
By facilitating access to high-quality learning experiences, we aim to help life sciences professionals—and the companies they work for—thrive in an ever-evolving field.
