Sr. Business Controller

Summary

The Sr. Business Controller will provide insight through analysis and strong business acumen and work with the team on the commercial aspects of contracting, budget management and value creation analysis. They will be responsible for financial planning, reporting and analytics capacity to support strategic business decisions and improved business management together with the finance and operations teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starting professional, process oriented, have attention to detail, and strong analytic and communication skills. This role provides a unique opportunity to join a highly engaged and motivated team focused on improving care for patients in a VC backed biotechnology company.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial accounting and reporting through our financial support team and provide commentary and insights to leadership
  • Manage and track performance against internal budgets and contracts for internal departments and/or vendors
  • Ensure adherence and drive improvements regarding appropriate controls and supervision for contracting, invoicing and payment workflows
  • Lead the financial planning process and resources management (budget, projection and long-range financial plan) with a focus on ensuring financial plans align with company strategy.
  • Perform valuation analysis to provide insights into the impact of development choices underlying drivers and trends of the business
  • Captable and employee incentive plan management
  • Manage external financial stakeholders (e.g. grants, banks, investors, accountants, vendors)
  • Manage contracting process and review and negotiate standard to moderately complex agreements
  • Provide the financial and resources perspective on cross functional projects
  • Ad hoc analyses and other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications & Experience

The candidate must be trained and have an impeccable track record in managing financial resources and working with various stakeholders.

  • Finance degree (BSc/MSc) with affinity for life sciences is a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in managing financial processes, accounting and/or reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyse financial statements and perform financial modelling in excel
  • Experience managing internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, communicate (both verbally and in writing), and present financial information and recommendations
  • Exceptional self-management ability, result-oriented attitude and ability to meet deadlines
  • Team player, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with remote teams
  • Dutch and English fluency written and spoken
  • Experience working in a startup environment is a plus
  • Hybrid working possible
