After the success of last year, Radboud University has selected life sciences campus, Pivot Park in Oss, as the backdrop of one of their summer school courses in July 2022. Radboud University teamed up with Pivot Park Screening Centre, and HAN University of Applied Science to organise the summer school course: Introduction to preclinical drug discovery.
This training will be covering the most important aspects of modern drug discovery. The content of the lectures is designed by academic and industry experts in the field of early drug discovery and the course is a combination of lectures, seminars, group assignments, and visits to companies. Hence the reason Pivot Park is an ideal location to host this five-day Radboud Summer School as it is having all types of organisations active in pharmaceutical R&D located at the campus ground.
Pedro Hermkens, Lector drug discovery of HAN BioCentre and course leader, explains that the course is designed for anyone interested in drug discovery with a background in any of the life sciences, ranging from students with at least bachelor level to laboratory technicians, entrepreneurs, and researchers employed by life sciences and/or chemical companies. “In five, interactive but intense days you will understand how drugs are discovered and developed. Because of the diversity in the background of all participants, dynamic discussions arise and case studies are carried out together in a multidisciplinary setting” says Pedro Hermkens.
The first edition was rated with a good by all participants. “Currently we are working on the feedback from these participants and adding the final finishing touches for the next edition,” says Pedro Hermkens. With this initiative, we aim to organise an annual program with a mixed group of employees from companies to PhDs and postdocs to create a ‘life long learning’ environment at Pivot Park.
The course will take place from July 4th-8th 2022 at Pivot Park.
