Celebrating 100 years of future pharma

Binnenkort is het 100 jaar geleden dat in Oss de eerste medicijnen werden gemaakt. Dit zette een ontwikkeling in gang die Oss heeft gevormd tot wat het nu is. Niet alleen op het gebied van ontwikkeling en productie van geneesmiddelen, maar ook als ondernemende en innovatieve gemeenschap. Een mijlpaal waar we trots op zijn en die we vieren met een themajaar. Het initiatief voor het themajaar #100yearspharmafuture – dat loopt van september 2022 tot en met oktober 2023 – komt van Aspen Oss, MSD, Organon, Life Sciences campus Pivot Park en de gemeente Oss. De voorbereidingen zijn gestart en de eerste plannen liggen op tafel. De initiatiefgroep is nog op zoek naar samenwerking met bedrijven en organisaties. Hebt u ideeën voor het themajaar? Aan de wieg van farma in Nederland
Honderd jaar geleden is in Oss de basis gelegd voor de ontwikkeling van geneesmiddelen. Oss stond in die tijd aan de wieg van de farma-sector in Nederland, met baanbrekende ontdekkingen als insuline en de anticonceptiepil. Bedrijven zijn door het gezamenlijk verleden sterk verbonden. Tot op de dag van vandaag een bloeiende sector waarvoor hier alle componenten aanwezig zijn: van het allereerste onderzoek tot de grootschalige commerciële productie van geneesmiddelen. “Elk bedrijf in ons cluster verricht werk dat ertoe doet” aldus Wenny Raaijmakers van Organon Benelux. Vanuit Oss richten wij ons op de gezondheid van mensen in de hele wereld. Medewerkers van tientallen grote en kleine bedrijven werken met hart en ziel aan nieuwe geneesmiddelen, producten en diensten voor wereldwijd beter leven. “Een omgeving met gelijkgestemden moedigt ondernemerschap aan” aldus Brigitte Drees van Pivot Park. De kracht van Oss zit in de brede kennis over de ontwikkeling van geneesmiddelen en hoogwaardige productie. “Nergens in Nederland vind je zoveel farmaceutische kennis en kunde binnen een vierkante kilometer” aldus Joost van Zutven van MSD.

Farma in Oss bouwt voort op kwaliteiten, deskundigheid en netwerken van tientallen jaren. Met een keur aan geneesmiddelenbedrijven, toeleveranciers en kennisinstellingen dicht bij elkaar. “In het Osse Life Sciences-cluster zitten alle bedrijven als op een zakdoek bij elkaar” aldus Dirk Van Leemput van Aspen Oss. Juist die samenwerking zorgt voor groeiende werkgelegenheid: de meeste farmaceutische banen in Nederland zijn te vinden in Oss. Hier verbinden we talent en bedrijven aan elkaar en stimuleren we ondernemerschap, met deskundige en gedreven medewerkers als belangrijkste kapitaal. “Na dit jaar twijfelt niemand er nog aan: Oss is de farma-hoofdstad van Nederland” aldus burgemeester Wobine Buijs-Glaudemans.
