Eindhoven University of Technology invites you to the Workshop on Electron Microscopy for Biopharmaceutical Innovation, hosted by the Center for Multiscale Electron Microscopy (CMEM) and the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (ICMS).

📅 17 October, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
📍 TU/e – Building Ceres, meeting room 1.26

🔗Registration before 1 October

Why Attend?

Biopharmaceutical R&D increasingly relies on understanding materials and biological systems at the nanoscale. Yet, access to high-end EM or OM (optical microscopy) infrastructure and expertise is often limited. This workshop bridges that gap by showcasing how CMEM’s advanced EM tools and the ICMS Advanced Microscopy Facility (AMF) can support your innovation pipeline from molecule to medicine. Watch the CMEM movie and visit AMF – ICMS at https://superresolution.nl .

You’ll learn how EM can help you:

  • Visualize drug delivery systems, nanoparticles, and biomaterials in their native state using Cryo-TEM
  • Quantify 3D structures of complex formulations or scaffolds using tomography and image analysis
  • Gain insights into interactions between materials and biological environments
  • Explore advanced optical microscopy approaches at AMF ICMS to complement EM investigations

What to Expect

  • A guided tour of CMEM’s state-of-the-art EM facilities
  • A visit to the Advanced Microscopy Facility (AMF) at ICMS, focused on cutting-edge optical microscopy techniques
  • Case studies relevant to drug development and biomedical applications
  • Opportunities to explore collaborations and tailored access to EM infrastructure
  • Networking with EM and advanced optical microscopy experts and fellow innovators in the life sciences

Who Should Join?

  • R&D leaders, scientists, and founders from biopharma startups and scale-ups
  • Innovators working on formulations, delivery systems, diagnostics, or regenerative medicine
  • Anyone seeking to enhance product development with nanoscale insight

Program

  • Opening and Welcome
  • Introduction and Research Services at ICMS Advanced Microscopy Facility (AMF) by Yuyang Wang (Project Manager & Strategy Lead AMF)
  • Advanced EM for soft matter by Heiner Friedrich (Professor Physical Chemistry & Lead Center for Multiscale Electron Microscopy)
  • Lab tours
  • Networking and drinks

Erwin Wurm | Am I a House?

For the first time, the artist shows a cross-section of his work, from Narrow Furniture to One Minute Sculptures, within the walls of a historic building. Villa Constance, a former home that today houses Museum Jan Cunen, is not only a location but also part of the conversation. Because what exactly is a house?

#100YEARSPHARMAFUTURE

The development of medicines in Oss began one hundred years ago. It was then that the foundations were laid for what would become a flourishing pharmaceutical sector in the Netherlands, leading to groundbreaking discoveries such as insulin and the anti-conception pill.

Today, the entire chain is still represented in Oss, from early-stage research to the commercial scale production of medicines. Working in Oss, we focus on the health of people all over the world. Employees at dozens of companies large and small put their heart and soul into new medicines, products and services that will improve lives worldwide. Together, our strength lies in our combination of broad knowledge about the development of medicines and a thorough understanding of the requirements of high-quality production.

This shared past and common values stimulate strong bonds among everyone who works in pharmaceuticals in Oss. We build on qualities, expertise and networks that go back decades. And with a wide variety of pharmaceutical companies, suppliers and scientific institutions all located nearby, we offer an attractive business climate and an excellent basis for international collaboration.

We are proud to work together to create a better and healthier future for all, a collaboration that in turn fuels growing employment: today, most pharmaceutical jobs in the Netherlands are in Oss. Here we connect talent and companies and stimulate entrepreneurship, while our expert employees are our most important asset. Their drive ensures that Oss has an influence on health all over the world.
